VIXX makes comeback with 5th mini-album “CONTINUUM” for the first time in 4 years “We are brothers…we want to be together forever”

VIXX recently met My Daily at a cafe in Seocho-gu Seocho-dong, Seoul, for an interview to celebrate the release of their 5th mini-album “CONTINUUM”.

CONTINUUM” depicts the major theme of “continuity” through various concepts, expressing the endless journey that VIXX has been on ever since the single “PARALLEL” was released in 2019. It is the first new album in four years and two months since the single “Parallel” was released in 2019.

On this day, Hyo-gi said, “I’m excited because it’s been so long and I think our fans have been looking forward to it as much as we have been looking forward to it. We hope that our activities will bring good energy and memories for both of us. Ken added, “It’s been four years since my last comeback, so I’m very emotional. With a new feeling, the three of us did our best to prepare. I can’t wait to meet my fans.

LEO added, “This is the first time in 4 years and 2 months that we are releasing an album to meet our fans, and since this is the first mini-album we have released as VIXX in a long time, I personally feel a lot of pressure and anxiety. However, there is no happier moment for an artist than to be able to see fans at concerts and on stage, so I’m working hard to prepare for this.
VIXX’s comeback album will consist of three members, LEO, KEN, and HYUK, with the absence of their leader N. HYUK confessed, “Rather than worrying about the composition of the members, the biggest question was what kind of music and performance we should do in order to achieve the best result with the three members, the most VIXX-like, cool, and competitive activity.

We are ‘concept dol (concept + idol),'” he said, “but rather than creating a certain person or character to represent a concept or performing in a cosplay style, we decided to create a song that best expresses our colors and strengths with a message and worldview that we want to convey. The biggest concern was deciding on a song that would best express our colors and strengths, with the message and world we wanted to convey. He continued, “Some members wrote lyrics, composed music, and produced, but we received a lot of songs.

We then went through a blind test process, with songs that the members had worked on being dropped. We decided on a song that everyone was satisfied with and said, ‘This song would be free for us to write,'” he said, sharing the behind-the-scenes story.

VIXX debuted in 2012, and this year marks their 11th anniversary. The new album contains what they consider to be the “essence of VIXX”. I was curious about the identity of the new album, from the music to the performance to the concept.

LEO said, “The identity of VIXX that people think of was the ‘concept dollar. The identity of VIXX was to show the concept of what people think of VIXX, while the members played the roles they were capable of playing. In this context, we tried to show a stage with a musical atmosphere, with lots of acting, and with an emphasis on visual elements, using our signature look and method,” he added. As HYUK mentioned before, there is almost no K-pop album without a concept. We decide on a concept first and then get songs to go with it,” he said.

We went through this process many times, so this time we focused on the music, the stage, and the worldview rather than deciding on a concept and acting it out on stage,” he added. The word “CONTINUUM” means “continuity. It is more than a value, it is about the infinite possibilities and the endless journey that VIXX is on, and the value of showing more variety,” explained Ken.

KEN said, “When you hear the songs, I thought it was very VIXX to give them our own voice, our own range, and a cinematic atmosphere.

HYUK also commented, “For the new album, we had a general concept guideline in mind, and then we chose songs that fit with it. Then, in the process of deciding on the songs and developing the performance, the concept was gradually fleshed out, and we worked to get it just right. We had a lot of discussions during the song selection process,” he said, “There were many good songs, but we are performers on stage, and music videos are also important, so we focused on finding songs that would convey the message, each member’s feelings, and the meaning of the new album, and that would appeal to the audience. We worked on the album with an emphasis on finding songs that would appeal to the audience and show the meaning of the new album,” he added.

The album contains a total of five songs, starting with the title track “Amnesia,” followed by “Chemical,” “LILAC,” “Savage,” and “If You Come Tonight. LEO wrote the lyrics for “Chemical” and “If You Come Tonight,” while HYUK participated in the writing and composition of “LILAC.

When asked about their respective favorite tracks, HYUK chose “LILAC” without hesitation. He explained that “LILAC” reminded him of a day spent together around dawn, when the members’ simple and heartfelt voices were tinted purple like lilacs.

Regarding this, HYUK said, “As the youngest member of the team, I wanted to challenge myself with lyrics and concepts that were not unlike the youngest, based on what I saw and learned from the members,” and added, “You could say that I metaphorically and poetically expressed the beautiful days that my loved ones have dreamed of and the unforgettable times we spent together. I’m showing it here for the first time, but my intention was that way,” he told us, catching our attention.

KEN also chose “Savage,” a song that embodies his colors, his growth, and his identity. He stated, “I was drawn to this song when I chose it because it was so good while singing it, and I thought it would allow me to tell my story to my fans.

LEO, on the other hand, chose “If You Come Tonight. He said, “It’s a fan song, but I wrote the lyrics myself. It’s not about ‘I love you and miss you,’ but about the many people who love us now and want us to bring our penlights out again, even if they have put them in the closet for a while. I hope you will listen to it a lot. In a way, you could say that it is a track that contains honest feelings,” he said with a shy smile.

When I asked LEO to introduce “Chemical,” he replied, “It’s a song I insisted on being the title track until the very end, but dropped out. The haunting melody of the chorus is what stimulates me,” he said, adding, “I’m highly satisfied with ‘Amnesia,’ but it’s such a good song. It is a track that expresses the emotions of a man and woman in love,” he explained.

As explained above, “CONTINUUM” is the theme of “continuity” through a variety of concepts, and VIXX has always been an endless journey, VIXX often used the words “continuity,” “connection,” and “continuity” when describing the album, concept, and songs. Does this mean that their activities will continue in the future? Have the members ever talked about continuing their activities on a regular basis?

LEO immediately replied, “Yes,” and added, “Actually, we have talked about it a lot. Even if we wanted to, it is not something we could do at any time, but there are some areas that the members have promised each other and discussed. I can’t say for sure, but there are things that the members have been discussing with each other for some time,” he declared.
